Pinterest image and video size guide

Pick a pin type to see its sizes, shapes, file types and limits. Every number comes from Pinterest’s own documentation, with the link and the date it was checked. Where Pinterest gives no number, the guide says so.

  1. Pinterest’s organic Pin specs page gives no recommended shape or size for image pins. The 2:3 recommendation, 1000 × 1500 pixels, comes from its ad specs and creative best practices pages. Pinterest warns that ratios greater than 2:3 might get cut off in feeds.
  2. The first 40 characters depend on the device. For double-byte languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic, Pinterest says the first 30.

Carousels, collages and other formats are not covered by the Pin specs page, so this guide gives no numbers for them. Nothing here is estimated or taken from another site.

Bloomtack makes pins at the right size. Image pins at 1000 × 1500 and video pins in 9:16 or 2:3, from your blog post, in your brand.

How to use the guide

Pinterest publishes its pin limits in several places, and they do not all say the same thing. This guide puts them in one table, keeps each number next to the page it came from, and leaves a cell as “Pinterest gives no number” when Pinterest does not state one.

How to use it

  1. Choose a pin type above. The card shows the limits for that type.
  2. Check the table to compare types, and read the notes below it.
  3. Press Copy these specs to paste them into a brief for a designer or a note.

Tips

  • Make pins vertical. Most people use Pinterest on a phone, and Pinterest’s creative guidance says to aim for a vertical 2:3 shape.
  • Check your images with the pin size checker and count your title and description with the character counter.
  • Specs change. Each source link is below with the date it was checked, so you can compare against Pinterest’s page.

Pinterest size questions

What size should a Pinterest image pin be?

Pinterest recommends a 2:3 shape, or 1000 × 1500 pixels. Its Pin specs page gives no minimum size for image pins, and says the file can be up to 20 MB on the web.

What size and length should a Pinterest video pin be?

For a full-screen video, Pinterest recommends 9:16, or 1080 × 1920 pixels. It also lists 1:2, 2:3, 3:4, 4:5 and 1:1. A video pin can run from 4 seconds to 5 minutes, in MP4 or M4V on the web, encoded as H.264 or H.265.

Which file types does Pinterest accept?

For image pins: BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and WEBP. For video pins on the web: MP4 and M4V, and on Android and iOS also MOV.

Are ad sizes the same as organic pin sizes?

Not always. Pinterest documents pins and ads on separate pages, with different file types and file size limits. The guide shows both so you can see where they differ.

Why do some cells say Pinterest gives no number?

Because Pinterest’s documentation does not state one, and this guide does not guess. Where a number is missing you will see that, instead of a figure from another site.

How do I resize an image to a pin size?

Use the free pin size checker. It checks your image against these numbers, then crops or resizes it in your browser without uploading it.
