Upload your own pins

Bring your own pin images and videos, see what happens to the file, and schedule every pin on its own.

You can upload finished pins you made yourself, in Canva, a video editor or any other tool. Bloomtack keeps the file on its own server and publishes the pin at the time you choose. Nothing goes to Pinterest before that time.

Open the upload panel

  • On Posts, press Upload your own pins at the top.
  • Press the + button (Create pins), then Upload your own pins.

Owners, admins and editors can upload. Reviewers and viewers do not see the button. You need a connected Pinterest account first: without one the panel says "Connect a Pinterest account before you upload a pin."

What you can upload

  • Pictures: PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 20 MB, at least 600 px on the short side, and not taller than 1:2.1 or wider than 1.91:1.
  • Videos: MP4, M4V or MOV, up to 100 MB, from 4 seconds to 2 minutes, and not taller than 1:2 or wider than 1.91:1. Up to 3 videos can be open at a time.

Choose one file or many. Each file shows its progress while Bloomtack checks it for safety and shape. If a file is turned down, the panel says why in plain words and you can remove it and go on with the others.

What happens to your file

  • Bloomtack checks every file for malware and for its type, size and shape. A file that fails is deleted.
  • Pictures and videos are re-encoded. A picture is scaled down if its longest side is over 4,000 px, and a video is made to fit Pinterest's video upload. Bloomtack keeps the re-encoded copy, not your original.
  • The file is kept privately on Bloomtack's server. Nobody else can open it, and it is sent to Pinterest only when the pin goes out.
  • Bloomtack removes the file 90 days after the pin is published, because Pinterest keeps its own copy.
  • Uploaded files are not in the zip from Export your data. Keep your own copy of each original.

Fill in each pin

Every pin has its own form:

  • Title: 1 to 100 characters. Bloomtack suggests one from the file name.
  • Description: up to 500 characters.
  • Destination link: the address the pin opens, starting with https://.
  • Pinterest account and Board: the board list is the one Pinterest gave for that account.
  • Alt text: optional, up to 500 characters.

A saved video can be played in the panel. A picture shows as a small preview right away.

Schedule each pin on its own

Under the form, choose Next free slot, or Pick a time and enter a day and a time. The time is in the account's posting time zone, and the panel names the zone, for example "In America/New_York (New York)".

Then press Schedule this pin. That button schedules only the pin you are looking at. There is no "schedule all": with many files you go through them one by one, with Next pin, and each pin has its own button. This is because every pin that goes out must have been looked at by a person.

When you schedule a pin you approve it, so it skips the review queue. The panel then says "Scheduled for Mon, Oct 12, 9:30 AM (New York)". The slot follows the same rules as every pin: your posting window, the gap between pins and the pins a day. See Scheduling and pacing settings. If your plan's pins for the month are used up, it says the pin waits for next month. If something stops the pin, such as a missing board or an account that needs to reconnect, the panel says what to do and keeps your text.

Uploads you have not scheduled

Press Save for later to keep a pin without scheduling it. Saved pins appear on Posts under Your uploads waiting to be scheduled. Press Continue to finish one, or Delete to remove it. Deleting removes the pin and its file for good, so Bloomtack asks you to confirm first.

If you close the panel with pins that are not saved, Bloomtack warns you, because those files are lost.

Delete a pin

A pin that is not yet published can be deleted at any time, and its file goes with it. Once a pin is published, Bloomtack cannot delete it: the message says "This pin is already published. Delete it on Pinterest." If you try while the pin is going out, it says "This pin is being published right now. Try again in a minute."

What can go wrong

The panel names the reason in plain words. The common ones:

Where uploaded pins show up

Uploaded pins appear in the same lists as the pins Bloomtack designs: Pins, the calendar and Up next. They carry a small Uploaded label next to the status. They count toward your monthly pin limit. Bloomtack never uses them in its design tests, because it did not design them. A scheduled uploaded pin can be held back like any pin; see Why a pin or a post is held. The sizes are also listed in Every limit you can meet.
