Pacing settings and your posting window

Choose how many pins a day each account posts, when, and how they are spread over boards. Bloomtack suggests, you decide.

Video guide: How scheduling and the calendar work (1:30, no sound).

You decide which pins go out and how fast; Bloomtack decides the exact minutes. Each Pinterest account has its own Posting pace panel in Settings, Schedule, headed "Applies to @username". Every number on it is a suggestion that you can change. Owners, admins and editors can change the schedule; everyone else reads it.

At the top of the panel a badge shows how healthy the queue is: Healthy, Running low (review more pins soon), No approved pins (the planner waits until you approve more) or Paused.

How many pins a day

Under Pins per day, pick a pace for the account:

  • Safe: 3 to 5 pins a day.
  • Standard: 5 to 7 pins a day. This is the suggested pace and the default.
  • Growth: 7 to 10 pins a day, with a note: watch your results, and if they drop, go back to Standard.
  • Custom: your own numbers in At least and At most.

You can enter any whole number from 1 to 1,000, for example 50; 1,000 is the most the settings accept. The only warning is at 10: the first time you save a number above 10, a box says "N pins a day is a lot". It explains that more than 10 pins a day can lower your reach and raise the risk that Pinterest treats the account as spam, and that we suggest 5 to 7. Press Keep my number to save yours, or Use 5 to 7. You see this only once. Closing the box saves nothing.

The exact number changes a little every day inside your range, so the account never looks like a machine. Your plan's monthly pin limit still applies. See Every limit you can meet.

When the pins do not fit

Your number has to fit your other settings. If it does not, a warning appears above the settings, for example "12 pins a day do not fit: your posting hours lets 9 through. Bloomtack will not quietly post fewer. Change the setting, or use a fix below." It names the rule in the way: your posting hours, the gap between pins or the pins-a-day limit of your boards.

Under Ways to make it fit, each fix is one button that changes that one setting and saves the schedule:

  • "Widen the posting window to 06:00 to 23:00"
  • "Lower the gap between pins to 60 minutes"
  • "Allow 5 pins a day on one board"

Bloomtack never posts fewer pins quietly. Until you change something, the pins that do not fit move to the next day, and each one says why. See Why a pin or a post is held.

When a change applies

Press Save schedule. Next to Saved, a line says "Applies from today: the rest of today's slots are drawn again with the new pace." Pins already published stay as they are. Pins planned for the rest of today get new times from your new settings.

When

Under Posting hours, pins go out between Posting starts and Posting ends, 07:00 to 23:00 by default. The time zone is the Audience timezone under Posting time zone: your readers' zone, or the workspace's zone if you leave it as "Workspace timezone". Each pin gets a random minute.

Under Gap between pins, Shortest wait is the least time between two pins on one account: 45, 60, 90 (the default), 120, 180 or 240 minutes.

How pins are spread over boards and posts

  • Pins a day on a board: the most one board takes in a day. The suggestion is 4: a board that suddenly gets many pins can look like spam.
  • Days between a post's pins: the wait before the same post gets another pin, from 1 to 60 days. The suggestion is 7.
  • Per-board pacing: under Boards, tick the default boards that take pins with no board yet, in turn. Each ticked board has its own number followed by "a day". A board with its own number keeps it; the others use Pins a day on a board.

Each of these shows its suggestion and one line on why. Change it if you know better.

Which pins first

Pins of new posts first, newest post first; then pins whose design is winning on your account; then the approved pins that have waited longest.

Rules that always apply

  • One pin per post address per day, and the same address again only after the days between a post's pins and on another board.
  • Never two pins in a row on the same board, and never more than a board's daily number.
  • Never two near-identical images within 30 days.

Vacations, boosts and pauses

  • Vacation mode: enter From and To, then press Add vacation. Nothing goes out on those days, and approved pins wait.
  • Holiday boosts: choose a Day and Extra pins (1 to 5 more), then press Add boost. The extra pins are added to that day's pace.
  • Pause publishing stops everything planned for this account until you switch it back on. Nothing is lost.

Removing a vacation or a boost shows Undo for a few seconds. Press Save schedule to keep the change.

When something goes wrong

If Pinterest is busy, Bloomtack tries again after 1, 5 and 15 minutes. After the last try the pin is marked failed, and you get a notice in the app and by email. If Pinterest stops accepting your connection, publishing pauses and you are asked to reconnect. When your approved pins run low, you are told; when they run out, posting waits for your next approvals.
