The automatic rules, in plain words
Every rule Bloomtack applies by itself, with its numbers, and what the line on a held or changed pin means.
Bloomtack makes some decisions by itself so your accounts stay natural and your plan stays within its limits. None of them publishes anything: every pin is still approved by you, one pin at a time. This page lists each rule, its numbers, and what to do when one of them holds a pin back.
How many pins go out each day
- Pins a day is your number. Bloomtack suggests 5 to 7 (the Standard pace), because steady posting keeps reach up and a sudden jump can look like spam to Pinterest. Safe is 3 to 5 and Growth is 7 to 10, which shows a warning. Above 10 you get a one-time warning, and Bloomtack sets no cap of its own on your number.
- The exact count changes a little each day, so an account never looks like a machine.
- A new pace applies from today: the rest of today's slots are drawn again.
Which pins can share a day
- Pins a day on one board: 4 unless you set another number, for all boards or for one board.
- Days between a post's pins: 7 unless you change it, from 1 to 60. The same post address is not pinned twice in a day, nor again on the board of its last pin.
- No two pins in a row go to the same board.
- No two near-identical images within 30 days.
- Pins of a post published in the last 14 days go first, newest first.
When pins go out
Pins go out between Posting starts and Posting ends, 07:00 to 23:00 by default, in the audience time zone, with a Gap between pins of 90 minutes by default. The gap can be 30 to 240 minutes. See Scheduling and your posting window.
When the pins do not fit
If your pins a day do not fit in the window with the gap and the board limit, the schedule says which rule stops them and offers a one-click change that makes them fit. Until you change it, the pins that do not fit move to the next day with a line that says why. Nothing is dropped.
What the line on a held pin means
A held pin shows a line in the lists, with Change in Settings where a setting changes it:
- Board limit reached, moved to a day: the board already has its pins for the day.
- Held so this post's pins stay N days apart: the days between a post's pins.
- Another pin of this post is already on this board: choose a different board for this pin.
- Held so two pins never go to the same board in a row: it goes out after a pin for another board.
- Posting hours are full today (3 of 5 pins fit): the window and gap have room for only 3 of the 5 pins.
- Held for its season, publishes from a day: see the seasonal hold below.
Old posts, seasons and fresh pins
In Settings, Pin rules, under Older posts and seasons:
- Seasonal hold is on by default. A pin made for a season waits until 45 days before the season starts, because people plan ahead on Pinterest. Turn it off and such pins go out when they come up.
- Fresh pins for older posts is on by default. An older post gets a new pin 30 days after its last one, or 14 days for a post that beats your account average, and at most 4 fresh pins a post in a month. All three numbers are yours to change. Every fresh pin waits for your review.
- A post beats the account average when it has at least 500 impressions and its click rate is above your account's.
- A post whose link is broken gets no fresh pins. Its line says so, and the link is checked again within a week.
What happens to pins that wait too long
- A pin waiting 60 days in review becomes expired. The review queue shows it with its reason: "Expired: it waited 60 days in review without a decision."
- Approved and scheduled pins of a post that is gone from your blog also become expired: "Expired: its post is gone from your site." A post counts as gone only after the weekly link check has found its page missing three times in a row ("not found", not a timeout or a redirect), so one bad day does not remove pins.
Words that never appear
Bloomtack's own list of banned words and its profanity filter apply to every pin's text, whether the copy is template copy or AI copy. Add your own words in Settings, Writing: end a word with an asterisk to ban every form of it. A pin that still has a banned word cannot be approved.
What the line on a changed pin means
- Missed its slot and was moved to a new time: a slot missed by more than 6 hours is given a new one.
- Template copy used: the AI key was refused, had no credit, the provider failed, or the answer did not fit Pinterest's limits. The line says which and links to AI keys when that helps.
- The text does not fit the design: the text still overflows after the font shrank, so the pin is flagged in review instead of being saved silently. Shorten it or pick another design.
- This pin shows an old price: the shop's price changed after the pin was made.
- No pins were made: your pin rules ask for none of this kind, or you set the post to 0 pins.
- The AI image was too small: an AI image needs a short side of at least 1024 px, so other designs were used.
- No AI video: the post was added before your video key was saved. AI videos are made only for newer posts.
What a sync brings in
- A first import and every later sync read the newest 50 posts of a blog, and the first 3 sitemaps. The blog shows "X of Y posts imported" and Bring in older posts, which reads 50 more each time. Posts are never dropped silently.
- A product sync reads up to 500 WooCommerce products or 100 Shopify products; Bring in older products reads the rest.
- A list that is cut says "Showing 60 of 212 pins".
Your own uploads
Pictures are PNG, JPEG or WebP, at least 600 px on the short side, no taller than 1:2.1 and no wider than 1.91:1. Videos are 4 seconds to 2 minutes, with the same shape limits, and at most 3 videos are handled at a time in a workspace. File sizes and the form are in Upload your own pins.
Plans, accounts and clients
- Plans limit published pins and video renders a month, and the number of accounts, blogs, seats and devices. You get a notice at 80 percent. At 100 percent approved pins wait for next month instead of failing. See Plans, limits and the usage meter.
- Each blog chooses which of your Pinterest accounts take its pins. A blog with no account of its own makes no pins. See Choose which Pinterest accounts a blog uses.
- The client portal shares a workspace with up to 25 clients at once.
When Bloomtack says "try again"
To keep the service fast and safe, some actions have a limit on how often they can be done. A message that says you reached a limit names the action, the limit, why it exists and when to try again, and shows an error ID. Wait that long and press the button again. Examples of what is limited: creating workspaces (20 a day), checking and syncing a blog's address, testing AI keys, support tickets, and data exports. Nothing is lost while you wait.
