Turn pins on or off for a post

Use the Make pins for this post switch on one post or many, read the pin chips on each row, and find the posts that get no pins.

Every post in Posts, and in the Posts tab of a blog's page, has a Make pins for this post switch. On a wide screen the list's header names its column Make pins. A post that is off gets no new pins at all, neither by itself nor from Create pins, until you turn it on again.

One post

Turn the switch off on the post's row. A message confirms it, for example "1 post will get no pins until you turn them on.", with Undo for 10 seconds. Turning it on shows "1 post will get pins again."

Pins the post already has stay as they are. Pins that wait in the review queue, are queued or are published are not removed, skipped or changed by the switch. If you do not want a pin that waits in review, skip it. See Approve and skip pins. A post that was still waiting for its pins keeps waiting until you turn it on again.

Turning it back on does not make pins at once. If the post still waits for its pins, Bloomtack makes them within a few minutes, under your pin rules. To ask for them yourself, press Create pins on the post's row. See Create pins for your posts.

A post turned off here also shows in Settings, then Pin rules, in the list of rules, and Turn on there does the same as the switch.

If a pin rule leaves the post out while its switch is on, the row says why, for example "No pins: Leave out the category Kitchen basics" or "No pins: Not among the posts your pin rules include". Change or remove that rule in Settings, then Pin rules, or in the blog's Pin rules tab.

Many posts at once

  1. Tick the box beside each post, or the box at the top of the list to select every post on the page. On a phone it is named Select all on this page.
  2. In the bar that appears, press Turn on or Turn off.
  3. The message has Undo for 10 seconds. It puts back only the posts that changed, and has no Undo when nothing changed.

The same bar has Create pins, Pause fresh pins, Resume fresh pins and Clear, and says how many posts are selected, for example "3 selected". On a phone it sits just above the tab bar.

Read a post's row

  • The picture: the post's own image. A post without one shows an image icon.
  • The chips: one per pin the post should have. Angles show as Benefit, Curiosity and How-to, with "image" or "video" added when the post gets both kinds, such as Benefit image and Benefit video. An extra keyword shows in quotes, such as “lemon curd”. A check mark means the pin is made; a dashed circle means it is not made yet.
  • The line under the chips: "No pins yet", or how many pins are made, in review, queued, published or failed, for example "3 made · 1 in review · 2 published".
  • The switch: Make pins for this post. On a wide screen it sits in the Make pins column; on a phone it is at the right of the post's title.

Find the posts that get no pins

The filters above the list are All posts, No pins yet, Some pins, All pins made, With failed pins and Excluded, each with its count. Excluded lists every post that gets no pins: those turned off by hand, with their switch off, and those a rule leaves out, with the rule's words under No pins:.

Good to know

  • On a blog's Posts tab you see the first page of its posts; the button under them, for example All 48 posts of this blog, opens all of them in Posts.
  • Everyone can see the switch. Owners, admins and editors can change it; for everyone else it is greyed out.
  • When you ask for pins for several posts, the posts that are turned off are skipped and named under the total, with Turn it on or Turn them on. See Create pins for your posts.
