How your pins are designed
The templates, brand colors, text rules and checks behind every pin Bloomtack designs from your posts.
Every pin Bloomtack makes starts from one of your posts and one design template, filled with your brand kit and your post's own words. You review each pin before anything is published.
The pin size
Pins are 1000 by 1500 pixels, the 2:3 shape Pinterest shows best in its feed. Text is large enough to read on a phone, and nothing important sits near the edges.
The templates
Bloomtack has template families for different kinds of posts, for example:
- a bold headline over a photo,
- a photo on top with text below, or the other way round,
- a collage of two or three photos,
- text-only pins with a colored background,
- list, step-by-step and checklist pins built from your post's headings,
- a key tip or quote card.
A post like "No-Knead Sourdough for Busy Weeknights" with six headings can become a photo pin, a text pin and a numbered steps pin such as "Mix the dough in five minutes, Shape without kneading, Bake in a Dutch oven".
What goes into each design
Each design is a set of choices: the template, the font pair, the colors, the headline length, where the logo sits, and whether the domain badge shows. Bloomtack tries different combinations and learns which ones bring your blog the most clicks. See Winning designs explained.
Checks on every pin
- Readable text: Bloomtack fits the text to its space and checks the contrast against the background. When text would be hard to read, it adds a darker band or switches colors.
- Smart cropping: photos are cropped around their subject, not just the middle.
- No near-copies: two almost identical pins are never published to the same account within 30 days.
- No emoji and no made-up claims on the image.
Good to know
- Your brand kit decides the colors, fonts, logo and badge. See Your brand kit.
- Backgrounds come from your post's own images or from stock photos (Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay), with each photo's licence and credit stored.
- Bloomtack also makes short video pins. See Video pins.
