Map blog categories to boards
Choose which Pinterest boards the pins of each blog category and keyword go to, and how pins take turns between them.
Video guide: How scheduling and the calendar work (1:30, no sound).
Pins do best on boards that match their topic. Board mapping tells Bloomtack where each post's pins belong. Open Boards in the sidebar, under Library. With more than one Pinterest account connected, each account has its own mapping.
Map your categories
Blog categories lists every category of your blog with how many posts it has now. The categories come with your posts, so the list is empty until your first import. Press Choose boards (or Change) next to a category, tick its boards and press Done. For the Crumb & Kettle demo blog, for example:
| Blog category | Boards |
|---|---|
| Soup | Soup Recipes, Easy Weeknight Dinners |
| Bread | Sourdough and Bread |
| Kitchen basics | Kitchen Tips |
A rule takes up to 10 boards. Secret boards are marked Secret: they can be picked, but pins meant to bring visitors to your blog belong on public boards.
How pins take turns
When a rule has several boards, pins take them in the order you ticked them, shown as 1st, 2nd, 3rd. So no single board gets every pin. To change the order, untick a board and tick it again: it moves to the end. This works the same with a finger or a mouse.
Keywords
Under Keywords, type a keyword in Add a keyword (for example "sourdough starter") and press Add keyword, then choose its boards. A post whose focus keyword, title or tags contain the keyword goes to the keyword's boards too, after its category's boards. Keywords catch posts from any category. Remove drops a keyword's rule.
Save and undo
Changes stay on your screen until you press Save mapping; Discard throws them away. If a save removed a rule, the note that confirms it offers Undo for ten seconds, which brings the rule back.
Posts no rule matches
A post with no matching rule goes to your default boards from Settings → Schedule (Change default boards opens it). Until you pick default boards, such a post keeps the board you choose in the review queue, where board suggestions help.
Good to know
- Bloomtack does not create boards. Make a new board on Pinterest, then press Refresh boards beside the account's name here. See See your Pinterest boards.
- Bloomtack keeps each account's board list for five minutes, so the page opens fast. A board you made, renamed or deleted on Pinterest shows by itself within five minutes, or at once after Refresh boards.
- Reviewers can see the mapping but not change it.
- With no Pinterest account connected, the page offers Connect Pinterest first.
If something goes wrong
- A board you just made is missing: press Refresh boards beside the account's name. The note "Boards refreshed" says how many boards the account has now. The button reads Pinterest at most once every 15 seconds for an account; pressed sooner, it shows the list it already has.
- "One of the boards is not a board of this Pinterest account any more. Refresh the boards and try again." A board in a rule was deleted on Pinterest, or moved to another account, after the list was read. Nothing was saved. Press Refresh boards, choose another board for that rule and press Save mapping again.
- "Bloomtack is pacing its calls to Pinterest. Try again in a minute." Bloomtack spreads its calls to Pinterest so your account stays within Pinterest's limits. Your mapping is not affected. Wait a minute and press Refresh boards again.
