Customize a template
Change the layout, fonts and colours of one pin design, see a live preview, and undo it with Reset.
Templates shows the designs Bloomtack tries on your pins. Press Customize on a design to make it yours: where the text sits, which fonts it uses and which colours it paints. Owners, admins and editors can change a template. Everyone else can look but not save.
What you can change
- Layout. Move and resize the headline, the list (on the four infographic designs) and the domain and logo row. Drag a box on the preview, or use the arrow buttons and the number fields under Position and size. With a keyboard, select a box and press an arrow key to move it by 1 %, or hold Shift for 5 %. Boxes stay inside the safe margin and never cover each other; if a move is refused, the screen says why. Only the domain and logo row can be hidden.
- Fonts. Pick a heading font from 21 typefaces and a body font from the 12 that read well at small sizes. Each name is shown in its own letters. Leave a font on your brand kit's own to keep it.
- Colours. Set the background, the text and the accent. Each is either one of your brand kit's three colours or a custom colour. Text and background are saved as a pair.
Text on a photo stays white, so it is always readable.
Why a colour pair can be refused
Bloomtack keeps text easy to read. If the text and the background are too close in lightness, Save stays off and the screen names both colours, the contrast and the blog it fails on, for example "Text #777777 on background #888888 has a contrast of 1.1:1; it needs at least 4.5:1". Make one of them lighter or darker. Brand kit colours belong to each blog, so with several blogs the preview uses the blog you choose.
What happens to pins
Saving changes only new pins. Pins you have already made are never redrawn. Reset to default brings back the design as it shipped, and you can undo a reset for a few seconds.
When you set a font or a colour, the tests Bloomtack runs on font pairs and colour palettes skip that template, so it learns less about them.
The preview
The picture on the left is drawn by Bloomtack with sample text, not your own posts. It updates a moment after you stop changing things. While it draws, the last picture stays and the screen says "Updating…". If it fails, press Try again.
Good to know
- Your own templates keep their zone editor on Templates for where the text goes. Fonts and colours on an own template changes only its fonts and colours.
- Video templates have their own motion design and cannot be customized yet.
- If someone else saved a newer version while you were editing, the screen offers Reload the newer version. Your own changes stay.
- Saving and previews need a connection. Offline, the screen keeps your edits.
