Import posts from a CSV file
Upload a spreadsheet of post addresses and focus keywords, for example an export from your SEO plugin.
Video guide: Add your blog and bring in older posts (1:40, no sound).
A CSV file is a spreadsheet saved as plain text. Most spreadsheet apps and SEO plugins can export one. Bloomtack reads up to 500 posts per file.
Prepare the file
Use two columns, with a header row:
url,focus_keyword
https://crumbandkettle.com/no-knead-sourdough,no knead sourdough
https://crumbandkettle.com/feed-a-sourdough-starter,sourdough starter
https://crumbandkettle.com/french-onion-soup,
- The address column can be named
url, link, post url,post_urloraddress. - The keyword column can be named
focus_keyword,focus keyword, keywordorfocuskeyword. It is optional; leave a cell empty for posts without one. - Without a header row, Bloomtack reads the first column as the address and the second as the keyword.
- Keep the file at most 512 KB and 500 rows. For more, split it in two.
In Google Sheets, use File → Download → Comma-separated values. In Excel, use Save As and pick CSV UTF-8.
Steps
- Go to Blogs, open your blog and choose the Import tab.
- Press Upload a CSV file and pick your file.
- Bloomtack lists any rows it cannot use, such as "Line 14: ..." with the reason, and starts importing the rest.
- Watch the progress line until it says "Import finished".
If something goes wrong
- "Use a CSV file of at most 512 KB, or split it in two.": your file is too large. Split it and upload each part.
- Rows past 500 are reported: upload them in a second file.
- A row's address could not be read: see Import posts by address for the common reasons.
